The Portuguese Collections

Fish Tins

This is a collection of antique images from the cans and packaging of tinned fish from Portugal.

The country has a long, long history of preserving fish and depending on where the canning factory resided, the packaging designs always depicted that area.

Portuguese Traditional

Inspired by traditional Portuguese tiles, this beautiful collection emulates traditional ceramic tiles still to be found today on the interior and exterior of churches, palaces, ordinary houses, shops and sometimes even railway stations.

Portuguese Doors

This collection captures the rapidly disappearing and ancient facades of the old Algarve, the truly historic doors of Southern Portugal.

Geometric

Through historical research, this collection was influenced  by  Art Deco and Art Noveau designs of traditional Portuguese wall and floor tiles and combines muted colours and geometric decorative patterns.

Portuguese Workers and Costumes

The Workers.

High lighting a multitude of rural occupations, this fascinating collection portrays the varying professions of Portuguese citizens from the 19th century.

The Costumes.

Each zone in Portugal has its traditional clothing, worn during festivals and folklore events.

Whether it is north or south of the country, coastal regions or the interior, the islands or even some cities, they all have their own clothing heritage.

However, in true Azulejos style and for artistic value, we decided to keep

this collection blue.

Olives

Take your aperitif to the terrace and place it on one of our lovely olive coasters or indeed purchase a set of four for your bowl of nibbles.

Portuguese Soft Summer

Fourteen lovely Azulejos tiles complete our Portuguese Soft Summer collection.

The word Azulejos, originating from Arabic roots, means small polished stone and traditionally Portuguese Azulejos were blue and white.

But when Lisbon was destroyed after the historic earthquake of 1755 and had to be rebuilt, many more colours were introduced.

Figurative Collection

From the late XVII century up until the XVIII, the Portuguese tile masters created a unique way of producing tiles to have various motifs as the main subject, most commonly flowers, animals, human figures and others.

These figurative tiles were used on house fronts, stairwells, kitchens, churches, pharmacies and many other places and it is still common to see them today.

Portuguese Bright and Beautiful

 Hint of 1960

From "Flower Power" to the psychedelic images of the 60's, a hint of the era has brought this collection to life.

Vintage Portuguese Rural

This beautiful collection of rural views from Portugal's past. I can imagine how looking at those pictures would bring back fond memories of similar scenes I've witnessed in my own life. It's always nice to take a trip down memory lane and appreciate the beauty of simpler times.

 1970 Revistited

For those of a certain age, a wonderful era and so famous for bell-bottoms, disco and jewelry made of wood, stones, feathers and beads!

This collection is based on the funky geometric shapes and psychedelic designs which were bold and playful.

Browns, oranges and purples were the groovy colours of the 70's so maybe reminisce with a coaster or two for your Advocaat, Babycham or Aperol Spritz!
